A FUNNY new book of ESSAYS by a cute dude B.J. Novak
I watch Ellen DeGeneres faithfully every day. It is truly the brightest moment of each day.
She had a guest on recently, B.J. Novak. He is awfully handsome. He was charming, intelligent and funny.
According to Wikipedia his bio is:
"Benjamin Joseph Manaly "B. J." Novak is an American actor, stand-up comedian, screenwriter, author, and director."
Most of you may know him from television show, The Office. He both acted in and wrote for the funny show. Currently, he serves as producer on Mindy Kaling's (fellow The Office alumni) series titled The Mindy Project.
Novak's appearance on Ellen DeGeneres was to plug his recently released book, One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories. The book jacket self-describes it as "an endlessly entertaining, surprisingly sensitive, and startlingly original debut that signals the arrival of a brilliant new voice in American fiction."
I just finished the book and enjoyed it immensely. It is a bit reminiscent of Augusten Burroughs or David Sedaris…..even DeGeneres in print. There are so many gems in this book. But two of my favorites included: "Sophia" (a short story about the world's first sex robot with the capacity to fall in love), "Walking on Egshells" (or: When I Loved Tony Robbins), and "The Rematch" (the story about two races between a tortoise and a hare).
Some of the stories are funny. Others are cleverly funny. A few are poignantly funny. Some provide great social commentary in the unique way only comedy can. Read this book. After all……..if he can be that cute, plus be as smart, funny and articulate as the book reveals, then he deserves success.
To order the book on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/One-More-Thing-Stories-Other/dp/0385351836. For more information about sexy Mr. Novak: click here
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hate to admit that it is the first book that I've read in months (because of school). I struggled through the Steve Jobs biography. As much as I was a curious, I think I won't be able to finish it. As fascinating and admirable as he was he seems to have been a monster too. I have this weird rule that I will not start a new book until I've finished the book I'm reading. I've broken that sacred rule now. The Jobs book may not be finished. But I'm so glad that I moved on to Novak's erudite and funny book.

Zach Braff is an adorable, charming DOLL FACE
Zach contributed to a wedding video proposal for a couple in the UK. Zach is utterly charming. And so is the video. I couldn't see the groom very well, but based upon his amazing proposal artwork on camera, I'd marry him in a second (as well as Braff).
Check out this charming video where "Scrubs" actor (and hottie) proposes to the this dude's wife. I found it on Huntington-Post in an article titled: "Matt Hulbert Gets 'Scrubs' Star To Help Him Pop The Question".
Hulbert also enlists family and friends to contribute their vote for a "Yes" answer the proposal in video and then compiles it all into the most beautiful and clever representation of love...without being disgusting. Although, it might be self-serving. Hulbert's career as a "graphic designer" into a larger trajectory as a result of this.
There are so MANY vignettes in this short video. Somehow, it's Braff's star power and charm, though, that truly sets the tone.
Personally, I found the two dudes, one who worked for EasyJet Airlines, filmed several "responses" in glorious European cities.
This is really a wonderful show of love. And evidence of many talented people.

Sir Richard Branson's LIAT complaint letter example posted on TWITTER
Sir Richard Brandson recently tweeted (or "twitted" as I call that forum or whatever the fuck it is called) one of the most remarkably witty missives I've ever read in English: "How to write a complaint letter – read this hilarious note from a frustrated airline passenger."
May I say how considerate it is of you to enable your passengers such an in-depth and thorough tour of the Caribbean.
Most other airlines I have travelled on would simply wish to take me from point A to B in rather a hurry. I was intrigued that we were allowed to stop at not a lowly one or two but a magnificent six airports yesterday. And who wants to fly on the same airplane the entire time? We got to change and refuel every step of the way!
I particularly enjoyed sampling the security scanners at each and every airport. I find it preposterous that people imagine them all to be the same. And as for being patted down by a variety of islanders, well, I feel as if I’ve been hugged by most of the Caribbean already.
I also found it unique that this was all done on “island time,” because I do like to have time to absorb the atmosphere of the various departure lounges. As for our arrival, well, who wants to have to take a ferry at the end of all that flying anyway? I’m glad the boat was long gone by the time we arrived into Tortola last night — and that all those noisy bars and restaurants were closed.
So thank you, LIAT. I now truly understand why you are “The Caribbean Airline.”
Arthur Hicks
P.S. Keep the bag. I never liked it anyway.
It is a complaint letter written by a dissatisfied customer to an airliner after a particularly horrible trip. This letter is utterly biting. Utterly witty. But most of all, utterly effective. And that is why Branson tweeted to his Twitter followers the letter that is excerpted below from Huntington Post (click here to see the Huntington-Post article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/01/liat-complaint-letter-arthur-hicks-branson_n_3529385.html)

NOW this is funny....way to go Conan!
I don't watch tv, except for DVD. I used to watch CNN at night but I cannot stand Larry King anymore and Anderson Cooper (before the Haiti disaster) seems to be trying to become Fox (or as another blogger sagely said: faux fox). Alas, I will maybe watch Discovery channel or Chelsea Lately when I eat dinner. So, most of the recent NBC late night brouhaha was a bit lost on me. I never liked Leno. I've always preferred Letterman. I've never watched Conan or Leno's new shows. But I do think no matter what, that the NBC people are idiots.
Since I don't like Leno I'm automatically sympathetic to Conan. But after this, I LOVE the guy. This is utterly hysterical. You go, Conan. (thanks to perezhilton.com for this). And good for Tom Hanks for taking part in this perfect fuck you gesture.
Perezhilton had this listing today on his blogsite:
You Go, Coco! O'Brien Blows NBC's Money Until The End!

Although Conan refrained from slamming NBC during his last night on the Tonight Show, Coco had no problem spending the network's $$$!
According to The Roots' drummer and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon house band leader Questlove, NBC paid $500,000 for Tom Hanks to walk out to The Beatles' Lovely Rita (in honor of Hanks' wife, Rita Wilson) on Conan's Friday night show!!
Tweeted Questlove:
"yo i hate spoiling but i will have you know that walk on song we just heard was half a milli. i know cause i got the list rate at nbc… anytime you use the beatles on tv that will cost you dearly."
Ha!

I love this gal--this just makes me laugh hysterically
Most of you don't even know me. Or rather, you've never met me in person which I assure you is a blessing. One of my most distinctive qualities though is my laugh. I don't know why but it is a laugh that makes others laugh and I always have people tell me that I should provide a laugh track for television studios. Some people probably consider it obnoxious. But it is my laugh and I'm sticking with it.
My former boss used to do impressions of my laugh at work happy hours. Once, I was at the off-Broadway play Hedwig and the Angry Inch and "Hedwig" stopped the show and said directly to me: "that is the most wicked laugh I have ever heard."
Another time, in a Chicago cabaret, the performer stopped the show and commented that I had the best laugh ever. Coincidentally, I was sitting next to a gal who had her own version of a unique laugh and he finally suggested the two of us pair up and sell our laughs to studios for sitcoms.
I wish my laugh could make some income for me. Does anyone out there know of any agents in Hollywood/NY who represent people with distinctive laughs?
Well, anyway, I guess the essence of my laugh, besides its infectiousness, is that I LOVE to laugh. When I laugh (which is fairly frequently), I'm usually laughing down to my toenails.
As does this great gal at her own wedding as her fiance flubs his lines. She utterly charms and beguiles me in this. Some of the best moments in life have been when something funny happens and you just literally lose it, and it usually occurs at the most inopportune moments. (for some reason whenever I see somebody fall, even if it is bad, I become hysterical). Like this chick who is so cracked up at her fiances line flub. I just love it when she starts guffawing (I love this word, guffaw, just as much as I love doing it: guffawing, that is)
The cutey little husband is a pretty damn good sport too, with the "pancakey" comment. I love this gal. She won my heart. You'll want to watch this several times because it is just priceless. Have a happy day! "My waffley wedded wife": sounds like Roger Rabbit or Elmer Fudd, no? I just know that is what Melissa is thinking.
